Society Description

Many students have a passion for history or enjoy exploring the arts, but few opportunities exist to combine these interests. The History of Arts and Media Society (HAMS) bridges this gap by providing a community for students to enrich their knowledge of art history while engaging in creative exploration. Fellow members and leadership team of the society will be always prepared to give new perspectives and insights they may not have thought of on their own. Additionally, for those interested in studying History of Art but unsure where to begin, our society offers guidance and resources to help navigate this subject, something not available elsewhere. Whether you are a history enthusiast, an artist, or simply curious about the cultural impact of art, HAMS provides a supportive and engaging environment to explore and expand your knowledge.

Society Project Description

What Makes Us Special

History of Arts and Media society (HAMS) explores various forms of art, including photography, visual arts, and film, throughout history. We study artistic movements across different centuries and countries, examining their evolution its significance in culture.

Last term, our society focused on African American artists' impact on the arts in recognition of Black History Month (UK - October). Our members explored the evolution of this movement and conducted individual research on specific art forms of interest. For example, a student passionate about music examined the influence of African American artists on jazz in early 20th-century America. To share our findings, we created a display board in front of the library, allowing students to engage with various artworks and music. We also encouraged them to share their thoughts, fostering a deeper appreciation of the topic.
