Society Description
What sets the European Language Society apart is the direct support we receive from the European Language Department and our passionate language teachers who help bring our ideas to life. Unlike other societies, we are the only one that represents the entire department, allowing us to create a diverse range of activities that celebrate both language and culture. We provide hands-on experiences, such as food tastings during European Language Enrichment Week, allowing students to engage with culture beyond the classroom. Joining the European Language Society is a great way to showcase your passion for languages to your teachers while connecting with peers, seniors, and juniors who share the same interests. It offers opportunities to learn beyond the curriculum while also providing valuable support for IGCSE/IB Spanish and French through useful resources. More than just an academic subject, language learning is a lifelong skill that enhances personal growth and opens doors beyond graduation. Unlike other subjects that may not directly impact you unless you pursue a specific career or major, languages are different; they remain valuable no matter what path you take, providing global opportunities.
Society Project Description
What Makes Us Special
The European Language Society is a vibrant hub for students who are passionate about French and Spanish languages and cultures. We go beyond just language learning by exploring traditions, cuisine, and history through various activities, discussions, and events. We hope students see French and Spanish not just as school subjects to excel in but as gateways to broadening their horizons. Thus, our goal is to immerse members in European culture.
We run a variety of projects within the society and for the wider school community. Among our members, we hold debates and discussions on cultural and linguistic topics. For the whole school, we organise cultural workshops, corridor games, and interactive quizzes to introduce European traditions in an engaging way. We played a key role in the European Language Enrichment Week, leading activities to celebrate cultural diversity, and also participated in the Christmas Bazaar by running a stall to support fundraising efforts. Currently, we are working on an article project where students write on the topic of cuisines in French and Spanish-speaking countries for publication on the NLCS Hub. Looking ahead, we aim to continue providing hands-on experiences that allow members to explore European culture through language, discussion, and interactive activities.
